1. Get Up Frequently During Your Trip

Traveling by car, plane, or bus leaves few options for steps or movement, and you may find yourself sore and uncomfortable. If you’re traveling for more than four hours without moving around, you may even be at risk of developing a blood clot.

This includes flying, driving, and other kinds of sedentary transportation.

“Movement is key to preventing blood clots during prolonged travel,” says Maragret Green, MD, a physician with the Travel Medicine Clinic at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. “I recommend people get up and walk around every one to two hours, if possible.”
