Can You Eat Pizza When You’re on a GLP-1 Without Nausea or Bloating?

If you’ve got pizza on the menu, here are some tips on how to do it in a GLP-1-friendly way.

Crust

Opt for a thin-crust pizza over a deep dish or stuffed crust, to minimize the amount of refined carbohydrates you’re eating. A cauliflower crust is another lower-carb option, says O’Brien.

Toppings

“Load up on veggie toppings while minimizing heavy, high-fat choices like pepperoni, sausage, or extra cheese. Skip heavy dipping oils, butter sauce, or ranch,” O’Brien says.

Adding vegetable toppings to the pizza helps slow down carbohydrate absorption, she adds.

Portion Size

O’Brien recommends sticking with one to two slices, eating each one over 10 to 15 minutes so fullness signals have time to catch up

Politi agrees that eating one or two slices is probably your best bet for avoiding side effects. “For most people, it’s likely that you’ll feel full after eating that much and won’t want to have additional slices,” she says.

“While it varies from person to person, most of my clients tell me that they eat about half of what they did before taking a GLP-1 medication,” Politi adds.

Side Dish and Drink

A side salad can add fiber to your meal — a nutrient pizza typically doesn’t provide, says Politi.

You’ll want to skip soda or other carbonated drinks, which can trigger bloating or reflux.
